The purpose and goal of the Holmes PTA is to support all of our students. One of the ways we do this is by coming together for monthly meetings where we hear updates from Principal Kennedy, Ms. Shields – Head Counselor, Teachers (rotating presentations from each department), a student representative, and also updates on PTA fundraising.
Fundraising is the other means by which we support our students. We only hold 2 fundraisers each year: The membership drive which kicks off at the start of the school year, and our “Unfundraiser” which kicks off just prior to the holidays.
Our membership drive funds numerous programs and activities, including:
Library books and supplies
Science Department supplies
Pi Week activities (Math Department games during the week of 3/14)
Student garden upgrades
Upgraded PE equipment
PBIS Awards (Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports), aka “got caught” rewards
Teacher luncheons at beginning and end of year
Our “Unfundraiser” specifically supports special year-end activities for each grade level:
7th & 8th grade: “Day on the Green” with inflatable obstacles courses and the Kona Ice Truck
9th grade: Field trip to Marin, a long-standing Holmes tradition
It’s called the “Unfundraiser” because there is no fundraising event (e.g. no auction or sales campaigns). We just ask for your contribution so that we can offer these events to the kids. 100% of donations go to funding these events.
Throughout the year, there will also be SignUp Genius announcements that go out to ask for snack donations and volunteers for school dances, or donations for teacher appreciation events (prior to winter break and during Teacher Appreciation Week in the Spring).
We hope you will help us kick things off by contributing to our membership drive.
PTA meetings are a great way to find out what is going on around campus. With reports from teachers, counselors, ASB student reps and Principal Kennedy, you’ll get some insight into your student’s day. Join us in person (Holmes Library) or via Zoom (link lives under Next PTA Meeting).
