About Holmes Junior High PTA
As the largest volunteer child advocacy association in the nation, the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) reminds our country of its obligations to children and provides parents and families with a powerful voice to speak on behalf of every child while providing the best tools for parents to help their children be successful students.
The Holmes Junior High School PTA helps to enrich our children’s lives, keep our parents informed, and support our teachers and staff.
Dear Holmes Junior High Families,
HJH PTA aims to enrich the experience of the HJH students through direct support of the programs and staff at Holmes. We encourage all of the adults in the HJH community to join our PTA and support our students. Studies have shown that parent engagement has a direct correlation to increases in student achievement. Here are some ways that you can be involved:
Join HJH PTA
Your memberships and direct donations made at the beginning of the school year are used to support ongoing school programs. With these monies, we fund the WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) program and the Holmes School Ambassador program, both of which are designed to make the Holmes school climate friendly, safe and welcoming for all. We provide funding for department projects at all grade levels such as seventh grade meal worms or the eighth-grade tile project or teacher specific ideas. We provide additional funds to the library to ensure that our students have access to quality resources.
Please visit the HJH website (www.hjhpta.org). The HJH PTA listserv is used by both the school and the PTA to communicate with our community. The bulletin link is a copy of the information that the students hear announced in homeroom each day. School Loop is an opt in software program used by Holmes to communicate information to students and families. School Messenger is used by the district to communicate emergency information or the monthly district newsletter. Be aware, if you opt out of any of these, you may miss important information.
Once a year the HJH PTA reaches out to our school community in a check writing campaign to fund three grade-level events scheduled for the spring. Please look for the request letter to arrive via US Mail in the late fall of 2019.
While junior high does not have as many volunteer opportunities as the elementary schools, there are still a few which need your help or support. Parents are always needed to chaperone dances or help with Teacher Appreciation events. Volunteer requests are sent out periodically via a Sign Up Genius link on the PTA listserv.
The General Membership meetings of the HJH PTA are held on the fourth Thursday of each month that school is in session. Each month we have presentations from a different academic department as well as reports from our teacher liaison, the counseling office and the principal. The meetings are very informative and a great window into the day to day experiences of the students on campus.
Helpful Reminder – Student Appointments
Holmes is a closed campus so students are not allowed to leave campus without permission. If a student is not feeling well, she/he should go to the office (not text their parent which is in violation of school cell phone policy). When a student plans to leave during school hours, she/he must bring a note to the Attendance Office in the morning before school. The student will still need to sign out in the office before leaving.
This will be my family’s seventh year at Holmes and we are looking forward to another great one. Remember, there’s no place like Holmes!
